President’s Message
The countdown is now 13 days to our Roaring ‘20s Murder Mystery Gala. PLEASE BRING YOUR TICKET STUBS WITH PAYMENTS AND UNSOLD TICKETS WITH YOU TO OUR MEETING THIS THURSDAY.
Recap from Last Week’s Meeting
Our speaker was Steve Carruth of Victory Home, which is a men’s recovery center located in Tallulah Falls. You have probably seen the sign on the right as you come into Tallulah Falls, right before you get to the school. Steve told us about his journey from addiction, through recovery at Victory Home, and how he came to be the director there now. Victory Home has 20 men in residence going through a 6-month recovery program.
Everyone is encouraged to stop by and pay a visit. They have a thrift store where you can shop.
They also have four greenhouses where the men work along with the Master Gardener’s Club to propagate plants. They will be having a huge plant sale the weekend of Mother’s Day, starting on Wednesday, May 6th and ending on Saturday, May 9th. There will be an incredible selection of native plants along with other ornamental shrubs and flowers for your garden. Get there early, though, because they sell out fast.
This Week’s Meeting
This week we will be hearing from several of our newest members. They will be telling us where they are from, what they did for a living, how they ended up in Rabun County, and how they came to be Rotarians. We will also be celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

Service Above Self
Our club once again displayed Rotary’s emphasis on the environment and clean water. We had 11 Rotarians and Friends of Rotary show up this past Saturday to pitch in at the Stekoa Creek Cleanup. They rolled up their sleeves and helped replant the raised beds and spread mulch. Thank you to all who showed up.

Mental Health First Aid Seminar
We are proud to be sponsoring our first Mental Health First Aid Seminar on April 17th. We have a full class of 30 people from the community who will be taking this full-day seminar. We are hoping that these folks will take the knowledge gained from this and help other people in the community know what to do when someone they know is having a mental health crisis.
A big thanks to McDonald’s for providing breakfast and Chick-fil-A for providing lunch for the attendees and trainers.
