Rotary Club of Clayton Weekly Newsletter
Week of Thursday, November 5th, 2026
November is Rotary Foundation Month, highlihting one of three parts of the Rotary Structure.
President’s Message
Rotary is made up of three parts: Rotary International supports Rotary clubs by coordinating global programs and initiatives, and offering leadership development, learning materials, and resources. The Rotary Foundation funds global initiatives and helps Rotary members advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty. Rotary clubs gather in person to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action. Together, we work to make lasting changes in our communities and around the world.
Next week we will highlight the Rotary Foundation. However, in preparation for our Thursday Lunch Program presenter, Paul Mathews, our Rotary #6910 District Governor, I thought of focusing on the structure of Rotary International.
The Rotary world is divided into 34 zones, each with approximately the same number of Rotarians. Zones are paired together, and each pair of Zones elects a director to serve a two-year term on the Rotary International Board of Directors, for a total of 19 directors. And each director is responsible for providing support to the districts within their zone. This year Zone 33/34 Director is Marshall Butler of the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville (District 6970).
The 34 Zones are grouped into approximately 520 districts. Districts are led by governors, who serve an important role in Rotary. Rotary clubs in their districts nominate them because of their leadership skills, Rotary experience, and dedication to service. District governors are trained extensively both in their regions and together with the International Assembly. District governors serve for one year, leading a team of assistant governors and district committees in supporting and strengthening clubs and motivating them to carry out service projects. They visit or check in virtually with each Rotary club in the district during the year, oversee the development of new clubs, and plan the district conference and other special events. We are looking forward to welcoming Paul, District #6910 Governor, this week!
