President’s Message
As we move into the heart of June, we are reminded that service is the foundation of strong communities.
This past week was a highlight for the Rotary Club of Clayton as we recognized members of our community who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving others. We also honored the first responders who sacrifice so much to keep our families, homes, and businesses safe. Their dedication reflects Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self, and serves as an inspiration to all of us.
As we reflect on the anniversary of D-Day, we remember the courage and selflessness of those who stormed the beaches of Normandy in defense of freedom. Their legacy of service before self continues to inspire us today. We are grateful for all those—past and present—who dedicate themselves to something greater than themselves.
As you read this week’s newsletter, we encourage you to celebrate these remarkable individuals and discover the many ways our club continues to make a positive impact throughout Rabun County.
Recap from Last Week’s Meeting
This past week was dedicated to honoring those individuals who have exemplified the concept of Service Above Self.
Wheel Award
We presented the Wheel Award to the WOW–FAITH Collaboration. The award was accepted by Ashley York of WOW and Caroline Wallis of FAITH for their collaboration with the Rotary Club of Clayton to make people aware of the resources available for those suffering from substance abuse.
The Wheel Award is given annually to non-Rotarian individuals or groups in the community who have demonstrated the spirit of Rotary’s Service Above Self through their service to the welfare of the community. Their efforts may be through community organizations such as churches, family services, medical facilities, and educational institutions.

J.C. Dover Award
Our J.C. Dover Award was presented to Laura Lane of Family Connection. Laura has quietly served by preparing and distributing meals for children to take home on weekends. Many of these children would not otherwise have a meal without Laura’s selfless service.

The J.C. Dover Wheel Award is the highest Wheel Award for non-Rotarians and is named in honor of Dr. J.C. Dover, a member of the Rotary Club of Clayton who practiced medicine in Rabun County for more than 66 years and was an active church, civic, and community leader.
Gold ‘R’ Award
The Gold ‘R’ Award was presented to Amy Hulett for her outstanding service to the community as Youth Services Chair and for her enthusiastic participation in service projects, social events, and club activities. Amy is a first year Rotarian who has served for years as a Friend of Rotary. She has jumped into Rotary through the Impact Club, Youth Service Chair and attending RLI, CLLS and the District 6910 Meeting with both feet!

The Gold ‘R’ Award is conferred upon the Rotarian who is judged to have made the greatest contribution toward improving community standards, facilities, and educational institutions. The recipient must maintain a high attendance record, serve as a leader in club functions and projects, and be a living example of the principles embodied in the Four-Way Test.

- Police Officer of the Year – Lt. David Edwards, Sky Valley Police Department
